UK economic growth for the first quarter of 2015 was down on the previous year from 0.6% to 0.3% and it is now clear that manufacturing output in general has slowed significantly with the Markit/CIPS survey of manufacturing purchasing managers falling to a seven month low of 51.9. There could be several reasons for the slowdown in UK manufacturing with companies reporting a decline in foreign orders due to the strong pound against the Euro and the upcoming election potentially causing a loss in momentum until the outcome is known.
